Supersonic DIPA [8.5%] 4.27/5 (22)

Nomad Brewing Co. (NSW/Australia) – Supersonic Double IPA [8.5%]

‘A modern craft brewery without it’s own India Pale Ale just wouldn’t completely have it’s raison d’etre.
At Nomad ours is Jet Lag IPA. As our Anniversary approached, we were pondering what limited edition beer we should brew to celebrate turning 1, and of course it was Jet Lag, with everything turned up to ELEVEN to create a DIPA version. That means almost double the hops, the malt the finger lime peel and we also switched to an American yeast strain to get more of that West Coast Double IPA vibe. Also, as we are always keen to experiment and try new things Supersonic Jet Lag is DOUBLE DRY HOPPED for extra hop pleasure….
Brewed with a combination of pale and caramel malts plus tonnes of American and Aussie hops, including the newest “Victoria Secret”. Combine this with a unique Aussie ingredient to
finish off, including dried finger lime peel to deliver a fantastic citrusy Zing.
A tropical fruit IPA, expect balance between malts, hops and flavours.’

– Hops: Cascade (US)EllaGalaxy, SummerTopaz and Vic Secret.

– Malts: 2-Row Pale and CaraMalt*.

[ ABV: 8.5% IBU: 70 OG: Unknown* ]

– Available: 1st Anniversary Special Release, Tap, 16.9oz/500ml Bottle.

Taste: White Peach, Pine Needles, Apricot, Marmelade, Grapefruit, Orange Peel, and Almonds on the Tongue. Rich in the Malt Base, with Caramelized Brown Sugar, Toffee-Apples, Stonefruit, and Cherries on the Palate.

Aroma: Grapefruit, Lime, Caramel, Peach, Lychee and Orange. With subtle hints of Chestnuts, Basil, Mandarin, and Coriander.

Look: Rich Orange Amber.

Overall: Slightly Sticky, Resinous, and Soapy. Strong Orange, Grapefruit, Lime, Pine Needle, and Peach on the Palate, with lesser hints of Mango, Chestnuts, Lychee, and Fresh Herbs in the Finish. Lacking in Depth and Character, with a Rich Malt presence overpowering the delicate Aromas of Citrus, Pine, and Tropical Fruits. Certainly not a bad Beer, but lacking in Aroma, Flavour, and Body to be considered a Double IPA.

– Overall: [ 84.75/100 ]  Style: [ 82/100 ]

We marry the best styles & techniques from around the world with Australia’s phenomenal native ingredients. That’s our thing.

Our Origin Story
A long time ago in a country far, far away (well, Italy) a love affair blossomed. It was a relationship between Global Top 100 brewer, Leonardo Di Vincenzo and Kerrie & Johnny Latta, a husband and wife team from the Northern Beaches, owners of Australia’s largest craft beer distributors, Experience IT beverages.

After endless travel, negotiation and plenty of beers, the guys managed to persuade Brooks Carretta, Leonardo’s brewing protege at Birra Del Borgo to pull up stumps and make the journey down under to Brookvale. He had two conditions: To never be restricted by fashions and trends and to use Australia’s amazing native ingredients.

Almost two years on we Nomads continue to be restless creatures, driven by discovery of new tastes, beer knowledge, experiences and the people that make craft beer great. But no matter where we roam, the best journey is always the one home.

We are Nomad. Never Settle.
