– Saaz (US) is an Aroma Variety of Hop, grown is Washington and Oregon as an American equivalent of the longstanding Czech variety. Saaz is a Noble Hop variety origination from the Czech Republic accounting for nearly 2/3 of Czech-grown Hops. Whilst the US grown variety slightly lacks the distinct Earthen, Spice and mild Oak qualities that are commonly associated with the Czech-grown Variety, it makes up for it with a higher Farnesene composition, enhancing pleasant Citrus, Floral, Honey and Grass-like qualities in the Aroma. US grown Saaz has a 1:1 Alpha to Beta Acid Ratio, complimenting the Herbaceous, Grassy and Wild Aroma. Generally used in Pilsner, Pale Lager and Belgian style beers. First brought to the United States from a Czech Saaz’ Seedling, and now Commercially grown in Oregon and Washington States.
