– Sterling is an Aroma Variety of Hop developed as a replacement for the Saaz Variety of Hops, developed as a Diploid Variety bred from 21522F and 21361M. Sterling is a cross between the following Hop Varieties; 1/2 Saaz (Saazer) Hops, 1/4 Cascade, 1/8 64035M (German Aroma X Open Pollination), 1/16 Brewers Gold Hops, 1/32 Early Green, and 1/32 Unknown. Slight Citrus, Herbal-Spice, Corriander, Peach, Cut-Grass, Lemon Balm, and Apricot in the Aroma, with a subtle, pleasant Bittering potential. Unlike Saaz Hops, Sterling has a relatively High Yeild at roughly 1800-2000 Lbs/Acre, as well as being resistant to both Downy Mildew and Powdery Mildew. Commonly used in Lagers, Belgian Styles, Pale Ales and even Cream Ales. Developed in North-Western USA in 1990, and first Commercially Released in 1998.
