– First Gold is a Dual Purpose Dwarf Variety of Hop, developed at the Wye College in 1995 as a cross between Whitbread Golding Variety (WGV) and a Dwarf Male. With an Alpha Acid content of 6.5-8.5% First Gold boasts a near perfect Balance between Bitterness and Flavour along with high levels of Farnesene oil. Farnesene is a pleasant oil that carries Flowery notes, like Magnolia, Citrus, as well as Herbal and Wooden-Oak notes. Often used in English Style Ales, ESB, Stout and Porters, First Gold can enhance the Fruity, Raisin and Soft Citrus-like qualities commonly found in English Hop Varieties. Commercially grown in the Yakima Valley, Washington State, and the United Kingdom. Released by the Wye College in Kent, England, 1995.
