Break Even IX: Scotch Whisky Extravaganza

Sunday, May 6th 2018, Hobart Tasmania

Join Hoposphere on Sunday the 6th of May for Break Even IX.

We will journey through some serious Sherry & Bourbon Cask Scotch Whiskies from the 1980’s & 1990’s. Including some Single Casks, Limited & Special Release, and discontinued or extinct Single Malts.

Now, I don’t mean to dangle the carrot in front of anyone, but we will be tasting a 2013 bottling of the infamous and now extinct Glendronach 15YO Revival. We will also journey through some 21, 22, and 25 year old whiskies, and even a wee taste of a now extinct 30 year old Single Malt.

Tickets are limited to only 24 people, with RSVP by Friday the 4th of May essential.

  • #7: Strathmill Distillery (Scotland) – Duthies 19 Year Old Single Cask Single Malt Scotch Whisky [46.0%]

[ Sold Out / Single Cask ]

‘Malt whisky lovers should keep an eye out for the new offerings being released by the reputable Cadenhead firm under their ‘Duthies’ label. Mr Duthie was the nephew of William Cadenhead and ran William Cadenhead Ltd from 1904 until his untimely death in 1931. He was also the person most responsible for building the reputation of Cadenhead’s as a bottler of single malts and rum.

This Strathmill 19 year old is the latest addition to the ‘Çopper Pot Still’ Collection. It also marks only the second representation of this distillery in our portfolio for well over a decade. Strathmill releases are rare – extremely rare. According to one source, “There has been but one official bottling, discounting the two casks released in 1992 to celebrate the distillery’s centenary, and only a small number of independent releases.” This, despite that corporate giant Diageo are present owners. Part of the scarcity is no doubt due to the fact that Strathmill remains one of the key components in the J&B blend.’

This bottling is non chill filtered with no colouring added.

‘Our 12 year old Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky was the beginning of our Bunnahabhain range, launched to fanfare and praise alike. Taste the origins of Bunnahabhain with an alluring balance of sweet fruit, nuts, vanilla and a delicate coastal influence.

As the original member of our current Core Range, Bunnahabhain 12 Year Old holds a special place in our hearts. First launched in 1979, the Bunnahabhain 12 year old has endured almost 40 years, thanks to the passion and dedication of our distillery team, not to mention the love and support from our fans and friends around the world.

Our 12 Year Old has set the tone and the benchmark for the rest of the range – only the best will do. A combination of sherry, bourbon and whisky re-fill casks are chosen to achieve the perfect balance of the characteristic nutty and sherry flavours of Bunnahabhain.’
